RIP B Jay Womack (AKA Bobby Ubangi)

B Jay Womack, AKA Bobby Ubangi, a central figure in and around the Atlanta music scene succumbed to cancer yesterday, July 1, 2009. He was 34.

As a founding member of several Atlanta bands; mentor to the likes of The Black Lips and Deerhunter; doorman for the Drunken Unicorn venue and one of the featured figures of the We Fun music documentary, he was one of Atlanta’s true characters.

Chad Radford wrote a wonderful piece about Womack for Creative Loafing Atlanta that was released in the Tuesday edition. If you have five minutes, take the time to read it.
