If you follow DeadJournalist on Twitter, you saw this earlier today. The Walkmen signed with Oxford, MS-based Fat Possum Records; home of acts such diverse acts as JL Burnside, Wavves, A.A. Bondy and Andrew Bird.
Fat Possum has established quite a portfolio of acts and the addition of The Walkmen shows that labels who focus on talented artists – artists, mind you – have about three legs up on their major label competitors.
As for The Walkmen, the band is currently in the studio with Chris Zane recording the follow-up to 2008′s LP You & Me.
The band kicks off 2010 with a couple New York City plays including MOMA’s Opening Night Armory Show benefit on March 3 and an engagement at Brooklyn’s The Bell House on April 1 where they’ll showcase songs from the upcoming album.
