Instant Review: The Happy Hollow – Spells

I have never understood indie rock. The music had never made any sense to me. It was so erratic that the listener never really knew what to expect. I felt this way until I got my hands on the new album from the Happy Hollows, Spells.

The album is itself is more of a crafted piece of art then it is an album. The mood swings from high to low varying from each song. It seems that each person in the band is using their instrument to create something rather than just playing their instrument.

Singer/guitarist Sarah Negahdari vocals pull the rest of the instruments in the band together to create what you hear on the album. Her vocals at times are soothing and other times they are very coarse and violent.

The end result is an album that is very hard to put down. As of right now I have listened to it at least 10 times and not tired of it yet.

The bottom line, grab this album as soon as possible. It is sure not to disappoint.
