It seems like Diplo is a one man career booster. Santigold and M.I.A. were both popular artists before they teamed up with Diplo – but not stars. Maybe its just coincidence, but they both became huge after collaborating with the Philadelphia DJ/Producer.
It now looks like La Roux is enjoying similar results. Its amazing how quickly she has penetrated mainstream American radio.
The Major Lazer & La Roux collaboration follows the same format as the Santi and M.I.A. mixtapes. Major Lazer, aka Diplo & Switch, takes La Roux acapellas and mixes them over the hottest beats from the Electronic, Hip Hop, and R&B scenes. On the flip side, they take La Roux beats from her debut album and remix that with the hottest Hip Hop and R&B acapellas.
What this mix lacks in turntable DJ skill (that Diplo & Major Lazer are know for) it makes up for in genius remixing. In most cases, their remixes are better than the original. So far this has been my favorite summer mixtape release. Enjoy …
