Live Review: Cut Copy, Holy Ghost!
03.28.11, the Masquerade, Atlanta
by Manu Muraro

Two years after their last show in Atlanta, Cut Copy came back to town. And to the same venue they played last time, the Masquerade.

But last night’s performance was it wasn’t the last time the was in town. Their great, new album, Zonoscope, was mixed in Atlanta by producer Ben Allen and engineer Rob Gardner.

As lead singer Dan Whitford mentioned during the performance, that was a reason why they were so excited about kicking off their US tour in Atlanta. “That’s more our kind of city”, he said, comparing Atlanta to Miami, where they recently played.

The opening band, Holy Ghost!, got the crowd warmed up with their great sounding dance tunes. But the highlight of the night was the headliner, Cut Copy.

The Australians opened with “Lights and Music”, one of their hits from their second album In Ghost Colours. They went straight to their first single of the new album, “Where I’m Going”. From then on, it was a mix of songs from In Ghost Colours – like “Hearts on Fire” and “Nobody Lost, Nobody Found” – and new tracks from Zonoscope. The set also including of one of my personal favorites, “Saturdays”, from their album Bright Like Neon Love.

Exclusive video clip for “Lights and Music”.

The very sweaty band danced nonstop and asked everyone to join and dance with them, a suggestion which was gladly accepted by a packed Masquerade. It was fun to watch the sea of hands going up and down!

What a fun, high energy night! But after seeing them in 2009, I expected nothing short of a great show.
