Retro Video: Nirvana

Rape Me - Nirvana (live)

Rediscovering ... Nirvana???

Fifteen years ago my life was full of youthful innocence and then, well, then came Nirvana. I spent the next two years with my ears wrapped around In Utero, Nevermind, Insecticide and then Unplugged.

By 1996, I fell in The Smiths and re-found the Cure (for whom I was almost beat up in '89). But by the late-'90's Nirvana had become radio staple, and I was tired of hearing them. From time-to-time I'd pull out Unplugged and escape to 1994, but the band became little more than a period piece.

A couple of years ago, Dirty Funker remixed Nirvana, and for a few months I put "Smells Like Teen Spirit" in my Friday night DJ rotation.

So here it, half way through 2008 and I think I'm ready to rediscover Nirvana again.

Quick Hit Album Review: All The Saints

Atlanta's All The Saints are releasing their second album, Fire on Corridor X, this summer. The band, which has been somewhat undervalued during the city's three-year transformation into a relevant base of rocked-focused musical talent, shows the growth an maturity that one would hope one a new band's sophomore effort.

While still a raw around the edges, the band's sound on this album mixes traditional American psychedelic rock with hard-driving Brit-rock. For those who like the comparisons, they are reminiscent of The Black Angels mixed with early-'90's Catherine Wheel.

Tracks are available on the band's MySpace page. The band will be performing on June 20 at Beep Beep and on June 28 at LennyÕs Corndogorama in Atlanta.

XM/Sirius Merger Finally Approved ... Maybe

After what seems to be years, the merger of XM and Sirius seems to be moving close to finalization. As an XM subscriber, I'm not sure how I feel about the merger. But as along as the don't mess with my stations, it will be nice to add a few additional channels into my rotation.
