RIP B Jay Womack (AKA Bobby Ubangi)

B Jay Womack, AKA Bobby Ubangi, a central figure in and around the Atlanta music scene succumbed to cancer yesterday, July 1, 2009. He was 34.

As a founding member of several Atlanta bands; mentor to the likes of The Black Lips and Deerhunter; doorman for the Drunken Unicorn venue and one of the featured figures of the We Fun music documentary, he was one of Atlanta's true characters.

Chad Radford wrote a wonderful piece about Womack for Creative Loafing Atlanta that was released in the Tuesday edition. If you have five minutes, take the time to read it.

The Sons and Daughters of Dirtyland

MTV filmed a piece a few weeks ago about the Atlanta music scene at Lenny's. If you have six minutes, it worth watching. Feature bands are Deerhunter, Snowden, The Black Lips and more.

And keep your eye open for Seany and Choice in the crowd - you'll see them twice - and you won't miss them.

Speaking of Atlanta, I personally am thrilled to see the success that Atlanta bands are having: Deerhunter, Snowden, All the Saints, Dylan ... continued success to you all.
