Kings of Le-Wrong

I have the first Kings of Leon album. I liked it, a lot. I saw them a few years ago with a friend who was a big fan. He and I made it through the show, but it was full of the yuppie-preps that half-listened, half-talked the entire time.

And I thought they were overexposed three years ago ...

After seeing them on E! and seeing how they are the new "it" band with all the "celebs" and seeing them look like they were dressed by a stylist of the stars ... they, that shark has totally jumped.

I know the new stuff, although it is more rock-pop than southern-grime. I'm glad they've been successful; friends of DeadJournalist, Snowden open for them a year or so ago, but damn ... they this new wrongness too bad.

Interview: Snowden

New Today: An exclusive interview with Snowden.

Here's an excerpt:
With the success of the band, it's no longer a project, so what is the most challenging aspect of being a "professional" musician? What do you wish you could change most about the reality of the music industry?

JJ: The challenging part of being an artist today is that there's no map to follow anymore. Yes, information is free and you can deliver your music to anyone in the world in a few minutes, but you're screaming out from a pack of a million animals. How can you be heard? How can you survive with less and less "grass" so to speak? We're part of an evolution right now and the only answers are trial and error.

The Sons and Daughters of Dirtyland

MTV filmed a piece a few weeks ago about the Atlanta music scene at Lenny's. If you have six minutes, it worth watching. Feature bands are Deerhunter, Snowden, The Black Lips and more.

And keep your eye open for Seany and Choice in the crowd - you'll see them twice - and you won't miss them.

Are You Sure It Isn't Friday the 13th?

It is one of those days - seriously - whoa. So anyway, here's what you should be listening to, if you have more time than I do:

Popup - This Scottish band is coming, so if you like Art Brut, but wish they had a wee bit more pop sensability, then check them out. I just got the new single, and maybe I'll finally give in and post an MPThree.

Born Ruffians - Beware, I'm coming for the for another interview. This band of 20 year-olds seem to take influence from Talking Heads' early work.

Havana Guns - They are about to release a new EP. I from heard/played a track by them about a year ago. If you like the Raveonettes or Jesus and Mary Chain, give them a listen. MPThree to come.

End.

Oh, and Stereogum.com seems like love our friends Snowden. They've posted two songs (well, one plus the two year old version of *cough* kill peaches' Fleetwood Mac "Rumors" cover). Hard to think it's been four years since their first show. I wish them continued success. They just hit the road for their next tour. I'll look forward to a beer with Dave and Jordan when they get back.
