- i happened to catch the great come-from-behind victory saturday night by the braves over the nationals. i thought much like the come back in 2004 over the o's that it would spark the braves to go on a run and get close to the division lead. it wasn't to be. the braves are down, again, to a lesser team. maybe it's the weather.

- i have tried to watch some of the nba playoffs but i just can't sit through and entire game. i do hope the clippers can pull out another series. go clips!

- rumours all over the net have point guard marcus williams looking as good as can be. those same rumours have the hawks as his logical stop. i'm not so sure. i think billy knight's got something cooking.

- the braves are going be good this year and andruw jones will the mvp. despite their problems, the pitching staff will be good enough. a little long-range forecasting: ryan langerhans will be an all-star and win a gold glove. ditto brian mccan.

- the hawks finally end their season tomorrow night. depending on tonight's outcome they may double their win total from last year. too bad that's only 26 wins. if they make a move on a point guard and a couple of big men they could make a leap into the playoffs. a lot of what happens depends on how they handle al harrington's free agency. they have to come away with critical pieces. with joe johnson, zaza pachullia, josh smith, tyrone lue and josh childress the hawks have a nice core.

- i met the late jason collier when he was at georgia tech. his death shocked the nba world last fall.

- the nfl draft is less than two weeks away. i'll spend some time watching it this year but not like i did in the past. with atlanta not having a first round pick and no local players expected to be picked high in the first round, there just isn't too much interesting to see.

briefs:
- the final four games yesterday were so bad i started watching "the barefoot contessa" on pbs. (the movie)

- the braves broke spring training yesterday as well. there's something about this team i don't like. i think there will be a couple of moves made by mid-may.

- fairwell to long-time braves catcher eddie perez (a subject of a myspace blog last fall). you are going to become a player/coach for the mississippi braves in aa ball. good luck as you begin what is sure to begin what is sure to become a successful coaching career. and tell jeff blauser i said hello.

- the nba wants to outlaw tights. nazi-germany was more open minded than the nba is now. ditto goes for the nfl. note to teams - your market isn't rich, old, white 75-year-olds. people like watching touchdown celebrations and they could care less about the length of an nba player's shorts.

- speaking of the nba, they had a match-up two weeks ago of two of their four biggest stars (kobe vs. lebron). the game was opposite a nascar race. the race was rained out so they showed the race from last year. it beat the nba in rating. nba, you have a problem.

- nascar is as popular in most of the country as meth. i'm not sure which concerns me more but i'm leaning toward nascar.

- the nfl draft is a few weeks away. for the past ten years i've ordered a pizza and delighted in watching the draft - all two days of it. the last couple of years it hasn't been as fun as it had been in the past. this year, i'm not sure if i'll be watching at all.

- good-bye turner south. with fox buying you and soon to turn you into another regional sports network, the days of liars and legends, junkin' and bushwacked are soon to be gone. will the new station be called fox sports atlanta? it should.

- dale murphy popped his jersey on a turner south braves promo. murph!
